Adsense Doesn't Just Make Cents, It Makes Dollars Too!

If you are one of the many webmasters today who are trying to make money on the internet by any means possible, then you may have already considered joining the Google AdSense program. If you haven�t yet made the jump to being an online publisher, let me be the first to tell you that you are definitely missing out of the chance of capitalizing on something that can be very profitable for you! Google AdSense is the most popular pay-per-click program currently online, they have offered pay per click, in one form or another, longer than any other search engine on the net.

They've put a great deal of research and development into their keyword matching to ensure it is a profitable program. Not only have they been around the longest, but they also boast the biggest number of advertisers as well. Google requires website owners to conform to a number of rules, including: All pages must have at least one link that leads to it, without concealing pages. All links must be active and work.

There is a limit of 100 links per page. Creating a hierarchy should keep your navigation clean and well under the link limit. Tags, especially the �title� and �alt� tags should be explanatory and distinct. When designing your site, create one that is helpful to a user; don't design a page for search engines. Make sure you clearly define what your site is about. Google forbids hidden text. Don't colorize the text as the same color as your background, or even size the text so small it can�t be read. Google has been known to ban publishers who engage in these so called �black hat� techniques. Google strongly recommends that you include a site map page. They also strongly recommend you include a robots.txt file in your root directory.

The robots.txt file tells website crawlers, like those that will match the ads with your website, which pages not to crawl. This is especially important if you want ads for some but not all of your content or if you have password protected pages. Following the website design rules doesn't make you bullet-proof, though. Even if you follow all of them, you may still be at risk of losing your AdSense account permanently or even temporarily. If you are indeed banned by Google to display AdSense advertisements on your page, you can file a re-inclusion request. Although not very successful many times, it still gives a publisher a chance to get back into the program. Here�s what you�ll need to include in your re-inclusion request: Your account name Your contact information A list of changes you've made to fix any violations A guarantee it won�t happen again Reports and evidence of click bombing, if you have any (more on this below) You should NOT include any threats to pull your business.

The subject of your email should be �Re-inclusion Request� to make sure it gets to the right desk. Click Bombing Click bombing is when someone clicks on one or more of the ads that appear on your webpage repeatedly. While this seems like a great way to increase your profits, it is against Google�s policy and they are always searching for click bombers. While you can�t prevent malicious click bomb attacks, you can take steps to defend yourself should you be accused of it. Consider investing in a third party tracking software program that is approved by Google. Look for one that tracks IP addresses. Run reports often, and keep them stored separately from your Google account.

Should you be removed from the AdSense program, you won�t necessarily have access to run reports. If or when you are removed or fined by Google for AdSense abuse, make sure you send copies of your IP address reports along with your re-inclusion request. As mentioned before, even if you follow all the rules of appeal and properly request a re-inclusion, you are not guaranteed a reversal. It seems most requests to be reinstated are not acted upon by Google. Google�s policy has been always one of �protecting the advertiser by any means necessary�. Unfortunately, this may mean kicking a legitimate publisher out of the program needlessly if they've been targeted by a malicious person.

Earnings Calculations So how much money can be made in the AdSense program? Publishers can earn A LOT. From 10 cents a day, to over one hundred thousand dollars a day. Of course this is all dependent on how much traffic your website gets as well as how well you integrate the advertisements. But how does Google calculate per click how much that you, the publisher, gets paid? This is the fuzziest of all gray areas in the AdSense program. Google admittedly doesn't disclose revenue share or whether the ads appearing on your site are cost-per-impression or cost-per-click. What they do tell you is how many page impressions (ads shown), number of clicks on the ads, page click through rate (CTR) and your earnings. Increase your impressions, number of clicks or CTR, and your earnings will follow.

Alternatives If you�ve been removed from AdSense or are just looking for another option, there are a few to choose from: Yahoo! Publisher Network is very similar to AdSense. Experienced webmasters who have used both Google and Yahoo! programs believe Yahoo! is second best, but still a very good, profitable program. As it becomes more popular, more advertisers will jump on board with Yahoo thus creating a PPC race with Google. Chitika, A pay per click advertising stream. They don�t have as many or such a variety as AdSense or Yahoo!, but are usually less expensive to advertise on. AdBrite is very similar to Chitika, though slightly smaller. The AdSense Formula for Making Money

I often get asked what the secret is to making money with Google's AdSense program. This often comes from people who are dreaming of setting up websites chock full of high-paying keywords for particular niche subjects and then sitting back and watching the money roll in. "What's the magic formula?" they ask me. If they're non-technical, I point them straight to my first AdSense book, Make Easy Money with Google, and assure them that they'll learn everything they need from it. They may think it's hard, but it's not.

But what about the technical people? By this I mean the people who've already set up a blog or website, who have registered domain names, who are comfortable with basic Internet terminology and concepts. What is the "AdSense formula"?

The only AdSense formula that you need to know is this:

earnings = number of clicks * average price per click

This is what I call the Fundamental AdSense Formula because you can derive almost every AdSense "secret" directly or indirectly from this formula. Do you want to earn more with AdSense? You have two ways of doing it:

• Increase the number of clicks, and/or
• Increase the average price per click

Your earnings will only go up if you do one or the other, and ideally both. It's an obvious formula, yes, but it's amazing how many people lose sight of it in their quest for increased AdSense earnings.

Increasing the Number of AdSense Clicks

Increasing the number of times the ads on your site or blog are clicked is the most obvious strategy. There are two general strategies you can follow:

• Increase the traffic to the site, and/or
• Adjust the ads to make them more "clickable"

Getting traffic is hard and takes time, so don't look at it as a quick fix. The best way to get traffic is to provide useful, unique content and to rank highly in search engine rankings for keywords related to that content. In other words, use standard search engine optimization techniques. DO NOT "buy" traffic or use "link farms" or other dubious techniques. Other tips for getting traffic:

1. Publish articles, even free ones, with links back to your site.
2. Include a link to your site in the signature at the bottom of your emails or in any forum postings you make (if the forum allows it).
3. Participate in forums/groups related to the content of your site or blog. The key is to participate, not lurk, and don't just post messages promoting your site.
4. Add comments (relevant ones only, please) to other blogs, you can usually link back to yours. (This won't help your search engine rankings, but it may allow others who are reading those comments to find your own site.)
5. Syndicate your content (trivial if you have a blog) and make sure that the content is registered with syndication aggregators.
6. List your site in relevant directories.

Adjusting the ads is something you can do almost immediately:

1. Position the ads on the page in order to make them more noticeable. Google even publishes a helpful heat map for AdSense publishers.
2. Choose the best AdSense ad format that works for your site.
3. Change the ad colors either to make the ads blend in with your site or to make them stand out. Again, it varies depending on the site.

Whatever you do, DO NOT ENTICE VISITORS TO CLICK THE ADS. Google is very strict about this, see the AdSense program policies for the details.

Increasing the Average AdSense Price Per Click

Increasing the average price per click you receive from AdSense is the other strategy for increasing your overall AdSense earnings. You can do this by:

• Carefully targeting your content, and/or
• Filtering out and avoiding low-paying ads

Content targeting isn't just about creating relevant, unique content. It's also making sure that that content is written to target the higher-paying keywords associated with a given topic. This means:

• Figuring out which keyword variations for that topic pay more. Often the more specialized variations and phrases pay more than the "generic" terms.
• Ensuring that the keyword density of the content favors the higher-paying keyword variations. See the Vioxx Lawsuits page for an example of well-targeted ads due to appropriate keyword density.

And to reduce the occurrence of lower-paying ads, consider these two strategies:

1. Use AdSense's competitive filter mechanism to screen out the ads that you don't want.
2. Show fewer ads on a page. The fewer ads you show, the more the higher-paying ads get displayed and clicked.

Many publishers also report that their earnings increase if they remove ads completely from pages with few or no clicks. Again, the "less is more" strategy favors the higher-paying ads.

There's No Magic

As you can see, there's no magic involved to increasing your AdSense earnings. The Fundamental AdSense Formula is easy to understand, but that doesn't mean it's easy to apply the formula. It takes time and effort to do it, just like most things.

If it a free blog like Blogger or Wordpress then your task is somewhat easy in compare to personally made website. Choose keyword with count value nearly 1000 or so. Never opt for high count value keywords because there will be more competition and big internet companies are fighting for that spot. We have a very fade chance be at that point , initially. Example: Suppose your main keyword is "Adsense". Then check the possibilities of "adsense web site" searched 983 times in jan 2007", "adsense secret" 976 times.
   


3. Digg almost every article of your site. It may sound like spamming. but Digg.com works like this only and it helps. Let Digg user decide. You'll be amazed to see how many visitor Digg sends every day. Make sure that your article carries a catchy title and description as well.


4. Ping-o-Matic!. This a great tool. Absolutely free ofcourse. Just paste your blogs url and other details like blog name etc. and press Ping it. It will submit your blog to 20 or more blog directories. Do this after every new post on your blog.


5. Reddit is like Digg.com. Submit your article here as well.


6. Don't forget Alexa.com. Find your rankings here. Find similar website as yours with slightly better ranking than yours and try to exchange link with them.


7. Submit your site to Dmoz and Yahoo directory listings.


8. Last but not the least, buy traffic using Google Adwords. Seriously. See your monthly income after applying these tips. Buy traffic using that money for atleast three months. This will cost minimum $20-30 a month but this way you'll make sure to have not only guaranteed visitor but targeted visitor who click ads. Pay less for per click and choose high paying keywords to get high paid ads and get clicked.

Use these tips to increase traffic and see difference with one day or two.

Tweaking Ad Sense Ads Part 3: Composing Ads

Before composing your Adsense ads, there are several things you should take into account. Look at page carefully. You'll notice several things like, where is the first place people start reading your page. One more thing you should aware of that 90% visitors don't go below the fold. In other words people don't scroll down the page unless until they start reading the content.

By doing this i understand that heading of a web page is the most important part of a web page. Header is the first thing people notice/read. Second important part is just below the header. Here is a tricky part. If your header like this site is situated at left aligned then second important part is situated at left just below the header. If it is center then it is also center and same with right aligned. Below is a brief illustration to make things more clear.

Second most important part is below or above the left side navigation bar. You see people are used to see navigational bar at the left of the page.

Next is above and below the body or content. And last but not the least, page footer. You can put your ads wherever on the page you want. But these places are much more appealing and will definitely get you more clicks.

I was talking about Adsense channels in my previous post. Suppose you have 5 spaces on your website where you can show your ads. And you've published ads as show below or any other way:


Header - (Leaderboard (728 x 90)

Footer - (728x15_4 Link unit)

Body - (Large Rectangle (336 x 280)

Left vertical bar - (200x90_4 Link unit)

Right vertical bar - (Wide Skyscraper (160x600)

How will you know which is performing better or which is not performing at all. Making things more complicated, now suppose you have 2-3 sites with atleast 10 pages each. How can anyone track these data. Answer is Adsense channels.

Quick guide to add and configure channels:

1. Click Link labeled "URL channels"

• Click link labeled "Add new URL channels"
• Type your website's address in box below
• Repeat the process for your other URLs or simply you can type multiple URLs, one URL per line

2. Click Link labeled "Custom channels"

• Click link labeled "Add new custom channels"
• In following page, type a name in the Name field. (e.g. mysite1_header_leader. This is just an example. You can name whatever you want but the point is name should be clear so that by reading its name we can recall exact position of the ad)
• Leave the "Targeting" check box unchecked.
• Click Add channel button. And you are done.

After looking after channels palette, now we will compose our ad in part 3 of this series.

The secrets of tweaking Adsense ads

The secret is that is no secret. You need only some common sense (some says which is very uncommon in common people) and little knowledge of human behavior.

My other blog were receiving 2000+ page views per day but the clicks were not happening. After reading some "tutorials", I realized that the blogger template i was using that time, not suitable for Adsense. I changed my blog skin or template. Firstly i was using "Rounder 2" template from blogger.com. I changed that to "Denim stretched".

Why so? Because from school days we are used to read black text on white paper. Same with web pages. We are used to see black text on white background with blue links. When ever we see blue underlined text, we know that this is a link. My new template, like this one, maintains this public habit.

After that, i recomposed my Adsense ads. White background, black texts and blue link. Bingo. Next day morning i was jumping on my seat. My click rate were gone up from 2-3 clicks a day to 15-20 clicks that day. But wait a sec. i had 3 blogs that time. From which these clicks came? or it was a collected effort by all 3? I searched again.

By searching i came to know about "Adsense channels", which i was seeing from day one but not knowing the practical use of it.

Let's start it by taking some little steps, one by one.

Plan and start a website or Blog.

Do not start a website because you just want to earn online. I've seen many such websites in the past and died very quickly. It is just b'coz Google Adsense or any other revenue sharing program will take atleast 1-2 months or more to start giving you money. And this is not their fault. Your website or blog take 1-2 months minimum to boast a sizable viewer ship.

Tip #1: Choose you favorite topic or hobby. Make your site or blog around it. This way you will not get bored if viewer takes time turn up. Don't just select any highest paying keyword and try to make a blog around it.

Tip #2: Sign-up with many free web hosting companies available or sign-up with Blogger or Wordpress. Follow their sign-up process. And here is your website or blog ready for posting content.

Welcome to AdSense Tips and Tricks. In this blog you will find all the information you need to optimize your web site so you can maximize your revenue from Google Adsense.

I run several art related blogs. In year 2006, I've signed up with Google Adsense. First two months i received nothing despite of the fact that my blogs were generating more than 2000 views per day.

After two months things begin to change. Click rate started to improve. But only 2-3 clicks per day. This was far lower than Google's suggests and that is 1-3%.
